East Elementary School

Title 1 is a federal program that provides local educational agencies (LEA) resources that help children gain a high-quality education, and the skills to master the Florida Standards.

Title 1 provides additional resources to schools with economically disadvantaged students.

At East Elementary School, Title 1 funds provide for the Family Reading & Resource Center and additional staff members. These funds also make possible extended learning programs, professional development, reading materials for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, and staff training on parent and family engagement. Also funded by Title 1 are family academic nights and parent workshops which provide families with tools to assist their children at home.

To encourage Family Engagement in school activities

To involve families in a home/school partnership for improving student academic achievement

To provide families with learning strategies and workshops to help their child succeed

To develop a love of books and enthusiasm for reading

To increase family knowledge of the reading process

To provide books for families to read with their children

All families will be asked to sign a compact, which is an agreement between the family and the school to help ensure each child’s academic success. By signing the compact, all agree they are going to work together to improve learning. Families are involved in developing the compact. The School and Family Compact is required by Federal Title I guidelines.

Conferences are one of the most important ways families and teachers work together as a team. Family conferences are a helpful way for families to share information about their child that the teachers may not be aware of, such as their extra curricular interests. It is also a good time for discussing the child’s academic progress and for gaining ideas on how families can best help their children at home.

Parents and families influence their children’s education more than any teacher or school. Family engagement can also boost children’s achievement. By taking an active role in our school, families show their children that they are valued and that education is important. Children learn that families and the school are a team, working together to help them succeed.
